Goan Culture

Goan's are commonly said to be born with music and football in their blood. This is because football and music are deeply entrenched in Goan culture.

FESTIVALS

The most popular celebrations of festivals of Goa are Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, Christmas, Easter, Sansar Padwo, Shigmo , Goa Carnival, Sao Jao, Feast Of St Francis Xavier. Goa is also known for its  New Year celebrations. Fairs and festivals are also celebrated with great joy.

SPORTS

Football is the most popular sports in Goa, followed by Hockey, Cricket, Athletics, Chess , Swimming, Table Tennis and Football are popular ones. Fishing is also popular recreational activity.

MUSIC

Mando is an traditional Goan musical forms. Goan people are very fond of Natak, Bhajan, Kirtan. There are many Indian Classical Singers hail from Goa such as Kishori Amonkar, Kesarbai Kerkar.

DANCE


Some traditional Goan folk dances are Dekhni, Fugdi, Dashavatar and western social dancing are also becoming popular day by day in most of the celebrations.

THEATRE

Goans are fond of theatre and acting. kalo and dashavatar are popular art forms. Tiatr is the major Goan form of theatre.

TOURISM

Tourism is an important sector in economy .Goa is known as one of the tourist spot in India, it plays in important role in the development of Goan economy. Tourism is an important source of welfare. The state of Goa in India is famous for its beaches,temples, churches etc. Today  it is a main source of income.

ARCHITECTURE

Goa has two world sites; The Bom Jesus Basilica .Basilica holds the mortal remains of St Franscis Xavier regarded by many  catholics as the petront saint of Goa. Once every ten years the body is taken down from veneration and for public viewing.

CUISINE

Rice and fish curry is the staple diet in Goa. Cocunut and coconut oil is widely is Goan cooking along with chilly peppers ,spices and vinegar giving a unique taste. Pork dishes such as Xacuti are cooked for major occasions by Catholics . An exotic Goan vegetable stew known as Khatakhate very famous dish during the celebration of Hindu festival. A multilayered egg based sweet dish known as bebinca is favourite at Christmas. The popular alcoholic beverage in Goa is feni.
